Biathlon: Slovenia just off the podium
During the women’s biathlon world cup relay in Hochfilzen (Austria), held this Sunday lunchtime, Bulgaria surprised everyone by claiming the podium. Switzerland was then in a position to finish third.
In the end, it was perhaps Slovenia, fourth behind Germany, France and Sweden, who put in the most impressive performance. It has to be said that this was quite simply the best result for Slovenian biathletes since 11 February 2007 , when Teja Gregorin, Dijana Ravnikar, Andreja Mali and Tadeja Brankovic finished fourth at the World Championships in Antholz (Italy).

Logically, fourth place was a source of great joy for the Slovenian clan. We girls deserve it,” said former cross-country skier Anamarija Lampic in a press release from theSlovenian Ski Association. We worked very hard all summer and now we have a bit of luck on our side. It’s really an excellent result that I can’t wait to celebrate!
A fine collective performance
In total, Polona Klemencic, Klara Vindisar, Anamarija Lampic and Lena Repinc paid out six picks, an average of less than one per pass over the mats. I’m really happy, I’ve finally shown what I can do on the shooting range,” enthused Polona Klemencic, the fourth relay runner to score 10/10. I did my best on the track to catch up with and overtake the Swiss.

Of course, Janez Maric, the team’s coach, was also smiling: “I’m extremely happy with the girls’ performance. Lena [Repinc] started well and Klara [Vindisar], our weakest link, also performed well. Then Anamarija [Lampic] was excellent and Polona [Klemencic] was perfect for fourth place in the final, which is exceptional for us.
