Biathlon : “It was the first real test”, says Tommaso Giacomel
On Sunday, Italy took second place in the mixed relay at the Biathlon World Cup inÖstersund (Sweden). The Transalpine team of Tommaso Giacomel, Lukas Hofer, Dorothea Wierer and Lisa Vittozzi were always in touch with their rivals, and they got their bearings right from the start of the season. ” It was the first real test,” says Tommaso Giacomel, speaking to Fondo Italia.
For his part, the experienced Lukas Hofer handed over the relay in second place to his compatriots after battling with Campbell Wright and Eric Perrot, among others. A performance that confirms the work he has accomplished over the summer.
“It means that we’ve worked well with the coaches and that we’re on the right track. Now we have to move forward, tackle each race one after the other and do what we know how to do,” he told Fondo Italia. Before adding: “ It’s certainly an excellent performance; we now know that it works in this format. I think we have a very competitive team.
The third runner-up, Dorothea Wierer, remained in third place despite a scare on the standing shot with three picks. “I’d say we can be satisfied, we started very well. I almost got a penalty lap, so I’m not entirely satisfied with myself ,” the Italian told Fondo Italia.
“It’s the right year, I’d say, we’re getting our confidence back, so it’s a good test for the team. Of course, we’re just getting started, there’s still a long way to go, but we’re trying to stay on course.”
Lisa Vittozzi, back in the World Cup, finished the job to take second place. “I’m very happy. Obviously, I didn’t expect to start the season like this, so it’s very positive and I hope to keep the momentum going. I’m enjoying myself, and that’s the most important thing; the rest will follow naturally ,” the Italian confided to Fondo Italia.
” We had an excellent race, just like yesterday. Everyone gave their all and we put in a very good performance. So we can only be satisfied and keep up the momentum.
