Biathlon: Quentin Fillon-Maillet gets off to a flying start at the World Championships
In his career as a biathlete, Quentin Fillon-Maillet has taken part in nine World Championships. From Kontiolahti 2015 to Lenzerheide 2025, the Grandvallier has always won at least one medal.
The Swiss World Championships held in February were no exception to the rule, and it was on Saturday, in his very first outing of the competition, that the Jurassien grabbed the podium. With a 9/10 in the sprint, Quentin Fillon-Maillet took the bronze medal, beaten only by Johannes Thingnes Boe, who was crowned champion, and Campbell Wright, who won silver.
“Throughout the race, I told myself that I had to give it my all and I finished very well, he told La Chaîne L’Equipe in the mixed zone. It’s great because I’m chasing results. Winning a first medal feels great, it’s a great way to start these World Championships.”
Quentin Fillon-Maillet then went on to say, unsurprisingly after his comments at the start of the week, that he was “frustrated not to take part in the relay”. He believes that this podium will “give him a lot of confidence for the rest of the World Championships”. And he said he wanted to “go for gold” in Sunday’s pursuit.
This Sunday at 3.05pm, the reigning Olympic champion will start 37 seconds behind Johannes Thingnes Boe.
