Biathlon: Canadians selected for Canmore
This week, starting on Wednesday, the biathlon stadium in Canmore (Canada) hosts the traditional Canadian Trials at the start of the season. At the venue where the last World Cup ended in March, a number of challenges will be on the line-up for the two sprints and the pursuit.
The main one is the World Cup and the IBU Cup. There is one principle to remember: at the end of the week, a group of six men and six women will be announced. Among them, Adam Runnalls and Emma Lunder, on the basis of their results last season and according to the selection document published by Biathlon Canada, already have their ticket in their pocket for the start of the World Cup.
To sum up, then, five places for men and women are up for grabs at the Canmore races. The twelve biathletes selected will represent Canada in the World Cup and IBU Cup until Christmas, with movement between circuits depending on results. For example, to go to Le Grand-Bornand (Haute-Savoie) and avoid relegation to the IBU Cup, a top 40 finish in Kontiolahti (Finland) and Hochfilzen (Austria) is required.
Last but not least, the other major issue at stake this week in Canmore is the selections for the World University Games scheduled for January in Italy: six places will be available for men and women.
