Biathlon: Tarjei Boe did not run the sprint or the pursuit
“Revenge in the Aravis”. The title of the comic book by Franck Lacroix and Beniamino Delvecchio, published by Editions du Jura, is perfectly suited to the men’s mass-start of the biathlon world cup stage in Le Grand-Bornand (Haute-Savoie). The experienced Tarjei Boe had been ruled out of the sprint and pursuit races by his management due to a lack of results. On Sunday, in the only race in which he was allowed to start, the Norwegian won.
“You weren’t expecting it! I was the only one who believed,” said the winner on TV 2 shortly after crossing the finish line. He admitted that being sidelined served as “motivation”. And he admitted that “maybe it was a good idea to take a little break”: “I’ve got my legs back.

“He hit back with a victory. We can simply take our hats off to this man. He’s done a fantastic job today,” commented the channel’s consultant, Ole Einar Bjoerndalen (as quoted by NRK).
Johannes Thingnes Boe, third on the day, expressed his joy for his older brother: “I’m delighted to see that things have gone well for Tarjei. He deserved it.
Tarjei Boe shot 19/20. It was during his last pass in front of the targets that a bullet didn’t reach its target. Fortunately for him, his rivals also made mistakes. This allowed him to start his final lap eleven seconds ahead of Germany’s Danilo Riethmueller. On the skis, neither the German nor Johannes Thingnes Boe were able to catch up with him.

At the age of thirty-six, Tarjei Boe is back on the podium after his success in Hochefilzen in December last year. It is the 14th time in his career that he has stood on the top step of the podium. ” Sebastian [Samuelsson] will be upset that it’s a Norwegian who’s winning again,” joked Tarjei Boe when he was interviewed by SVT. The Swede recently joked that he hated his Scandinavian neighbours who, it is true, won everything on French soil in the men’s race.
