Biathlon: Franziska Preuss continues her superb season
Franziska Preuss is clearly enjoying an ideal season. Leading the overall biathlon World Cup standings since January, the German has yet to come down from her clouds. Solid again on Friday, this time it was with a medal around her neck that the 30-year-old biathlete found herself at the end of the sprint at the World Championships in Lenzerheide (Switzerland).

With a very good 9/10, the native of Wasserburg am Inn ( Germany) quickly placed herself in the battle for the podium. Setting off like a rocket, the world number one wanted to make her mark. And her gamble paid off: by the time she crossed the finish line, she was in first place.
However, she didn’t sit on that throne for long, as France’s Justine Braisaz-Bouchet put in a crazy last lap to overtake her and take the win by almost 10 seconds. Franziska Preuss was more than happy with second place.

“I’m very happy that everything’s working out today. I feel a bit freer. After my shooting mistake, I was worried because I didn’t think I’d taken too many risks. But it was probably still too fast,” she told her federation.

It has to be said that the German has been chasing an individual World Championship title since 2015, when she won silver in the mass start in Kontiolahti (Finland): “Last night, I had drawn up a battle plan. At the World Championships, you have to dare. I went for it whether it worked or not. I’m very happy that it went well,” she says with a smile.
