Cross-country skiing: bronze in Georgia for Gaspard Cottaz
At midday on Thursday morning, 17-year-old Gaspard Cottaz from Dauphiné came third in the individual 10km classic at the Bakuriani 2025 European Youth Olympic Festival.
Naturally, this fine bronze medal put a smile on the face of the Ski Nordique Oisans cross-country skier. “It’s a great goal that’s been achieved! Of course, we’re always trying to aim higher and we’re hoping for a bit more gold, but this is already really good, he told Nordic Magazine. I’m really happy.”
Although this individual free was Gaspard Cottaz’s main objective for the week, he was under no pressure. “It was more a question of concentration, he says. Individual skateboarding is my favourite format, so it was mostly about having fun.”
Motivated to continue shining over the weekend
“I started rather cautiously so as not to make the same mistake as on Tuesday, when I cracked on the last lap, analysed the Frenchman. So I accelerated as the kilometres went by and sent everything flying on the last lap.”
Eighth in this individual skating event at the Junior World Championships in Schilpario (Italy) last week, Gaspard Cottaz confirmed his fine form by taking this bronze medal in Georgia. “I’ve done really well, it’s been a profitable week! It’s great and all we have to do now is keep it up for the rest of the EYOF”, he concludes.
On Saturday, a skateboard sprint is scheduled before the closing mixed relay on Sunday.
