Cross-country skiing: Therese Johaug prepares to don her bib again
This weekend, Therese Johaug will officially relaunch her career as a cross-country skier. After retiring at the end of the 2021/2022 Olympic season, the Norwegian has decided to return to the circuit this winter , with her main objective being the 50km skate at the world championships in Trondheim (Norway), scheduled for 8 March 2025.
“I can’t wait to get back into racing, she explained this Wednesday in the columns of NRK, just a few days before handing in her race number for the opening Norwegian races in Beitostølen (Norway). It’s something I missed during my absence and it’s a step on the road to Trondheim.”
Coached in particular by Marit Bjoergen, another Norwegian cross-country skiing legend, Therese Johaug has had to pull on the handbrake since the beginning of November. This is because the desire to return to her best level has led her to train too hard. “The last month has been a trying time, she admits. I found myself in a rut between training and my family life.”
The cross-country skier with 100 World Cup victories is now the mother of little Kristin. Even so, Therese Johaug’s form will be closely watched over the weekend. As part of her plan to build up her strength, she will compete again next week at the World Cup in Ruka (Finland).
