Cross-country skiing: silver for Les Bleus
The final cross-country ski race of the Bakuriani 2025 European Youth Olympic Festival took place under sunny skies on Sunday morning. In this mixed relay, the French quartet of Gaëtane Breniaux, Victor Lafrasse, Anouchka Neuville and Gaspard Cottaz put in a solid performance at the front.
Leading at the halfway stage by 7.5 seconds after the classic relays by Gaëtane Breniaux and Victor Lafrasse, Les Bleus then saw the pack come back on them in the skate passes. So when Anouchka Neuville handed over to Gaspard Cottaz, five teams were in the lead: France, of course, Italy, Switzerland, Sweden and Finland.
From then on, everything remained to be done and it was the Italy of Alice Leonie, Luca Pietroboni, Vanessa Cagnati and Daniel Pedranzini, winners of the week’s three individual events, who looked like the scarecrow. Confirming its superiority, Italy won solo, but Gaspard Cottaz from Dauphiné was the best of the rest, giving France a fine silver medal.
It was Switzerland(Nina Cantieni, Victor Gailland, Lina Bundi, Jon Arvid Flury) who came out on top, ahead of Finland and Sweden, who were dropped in the final kilometres.
