A few minutes after qualifying for the women’s classic sprint at the opening cross-country skiing races in Beitostølen (Norway), it was the turn of the cross-country skiers to take to the track for their first confrontation on Scandinavian snow. A specialist in the event, Johannes Hoesflot Klæbo was up to his old tricks, taking first place.

The Norwegian beat his compatriot and outgoing world number one, Harald Oestberg Amundsen, as well asErik Valnes. The two men were the only athletes to cross the line within a second of the leader.

Five of the seven French competitors made the cut in this prologue. Eighth on the line, Lucas Chanavat set the fastest French time in this first round. Behind him, Jules Chappaz and Richard Jouve followed in fourteenth and fifteenth place. Théo Schely was twenty-fourth, just behind his compatriot Rémi Bourdin, twenty-seventh and the last Blue to qualify.
However, Renaud Jay, in forty-six place, and Hugo Lapalus, in fiftieth-third place, had their adventure cut short at this stage of the competition.
