Cross-country skiing: Johannes Hoesflot Klæbo attacks hard
It was the men’s cross-country skiers who closed this first day of competitions with the opening Norwegian cross-country ski races in Beitostølen (Norway). After a fine qualifying performance, Johannes Hoesflot Klæbo then put in his best performance of the finals.

Always at ease in a format that suits him particularly well, the Norwegian quickly made his mark in the quarter-finals. Perfectly in control in the semi-finals, the Scandinavian then turned on the heat in the final, quickly outpacing his rivals.
Crossing the line more than a second and a half ahead of his nearest rival, his compatriot Erik Valnes, the cross-country skier from Trondheim (Norway) proved that he is in good form. This augurs well for the return of the World Cup in Ruka (Finland) in a week’s time.

On the third step of the podium was Sivert Wiig, stronger than Oskar Opstad Vike in the final metres of the course. Matz William Jenssen closed the Norwegian quintuple just ahead of the first Frenchman of the day.
A successful debut for Jules Chappaz
Indeed, sixth in this final, Jules Chappaz put in a fine performance in Oppland County. A lucky loser in both the quarter and semi-finals, the Haut-Savoyard was on the offensive in the final run of the day. And even if that wasn’t enough to put him in the top 3, the Cluse rider sent out some interesting early signals ahead of the weekend’s next two races.

In the French clan, however, Rémi Bourdin, Théo Schely, Richard Jouve and Lucas Chanavat‘s adventure came to an end at the quarter-final stage.
