While the Norwegians, the French and other athletes in the cross-country skiing world cup will be back in action this Friday at the Norwegian opening races in Beitostølen (Norway), the Swedes will be back in action in Bruksvallarna (Sweden).

The day’s programme included a skate sprint with a qualifying round held early in the morning. The cross-country skaters were the first to take to the track, but were no match for the day’s overwhelming favourite, Sweden’s Jonna Sundling. Winning by a margin of more than 5 seconds over Linn Svahn, the reigning Olympic champion in the discipline left no stone unturned. Maja Dahlqvist rounded off the top 3 in the first heat.

In the men’s race, Edvin Anger also made his mark right from the start. Winning by more than 3 seconds over his compatriot Maans Skoglund, the 22-year-old cross-country skier will be one of the most serious contenders for victory in the final stages. Third place went to Johan Haeggstroem.
Present at the start, Franco-Swedish Emil Porret was eliminated at this stage after finishing seventy-third.
