Cross-country skiing: Jonna Sundling as imperious as ever in the sprint
Bruksvallarna (Sweden) was the venue for the opening Swedish cross-country skiing races on Friday. The first day of competition included a skate sprint in Jämtland county. And the favourites lived up to their billing as they made their comeback.
Already ultra-dominant in qualifying, Jonna Sundling showed no fear when it came to the day’s finals. Winner of the quarter-finals and semi-finals, the Scandinavian then put on a real show of strength in the final to claim her first win of the winter.

Winning by more than two seconds over Maja Dahlqvist, the 29-year-old cross-country skier struck a first blow just one week before the World Cup kicks off in Ruka (Finland) next weekend. On the third step of the podium was Johanna Hagstroem, stronger thanEmma Ribom and Linn Svahn in the final to maintain her place in the top 3.
Edvin Anger also impresses
In the men’s competition, once again the day’s great favourite did not falter. Edvin Anger came out on top in his quarter and half, and then completed the job perfectly in the final. A solid winner, the 22-year old beat his compatriots Marcus Grate and Emil Danielsson, who were both more than a second behind when they crossed the line.

Canadian Xavier McKeever continued to surprise as the laps went by, slipping into a fine fourth place ahead of the promising Maans Skoglund and Anton Grahn.
