Cross-country skiing: no national team this summer for Calle Halfvarsson
This Friday morning, in the columns of Expressen, Sweden’s Calle Halfvarsson announced that he would be spending his summer preparing outside the national cross-country skiing team. Having been a member of the Swedish squad for fourteen years, the 36-year-old cross-country skier will be leaving it behind to prepare for the Olympic season.
“It was a difficult decision to make, he reveals. There’s nothing wrong with the national team, but I think it’s the right thing for me [to spend the preparation on my side]. It could be a lift.”

To explain his decision, Calle Halfvarsson also indicated that his choice would enable a young cross-country skier to take up a place in the national team.
As for the structure that will enable him to train, the Swede has not yet announced anything. “I’m in the middle of a big project,” he says.
