Following on from the women’s qualifier won by Jasmi Joensuu, the cross-country skiers also entered the fray in the classic sprint of the cross-country skiing world cup held this weekend in Cogne (Italy).

In the absence of specialist Johannes Hoesflot Klæbo, the debates promised to be more open than usual. But one Norwegian can always hide another. In the first heat, it was Erik Valnes who came out on top. The Scandinavian won ahead of Sweden’s Edvin Anger and his surprising team-mate Anton Grahn.

For the French, Lucas Chanavat was the best performer in this qualifying round. The Bornandin placed ninth ahead of his team-mates Jules Chappaz, twelfth, and Richard Jouve, who finished twenty-fourth. By contrast, the adventure ended there for Ivan Essonnier, thirty-sixth and ejected by less than four tenths. The same outcome for Renaud Jay, fiftieth, and Rémi Bourdin, fifty-sixth.
