Cross-country skiing: a limping American outing
At the top ofAlpe Cermis (Italy), which concluded the Tour de Ski marathon, Norwegian newspaper Nettavisen spotted Jessie Diggins, the 2018 Olympic sprint champion, leaving the stadium with a support shoe.

The source of the injury is now known : it was plantar fasciitis, a condition that caused him severe pain on the inside of his heel. The discomfort has been a handicap, particularly in the classic races at Val di Femme (Italy). Her courageous third place at the Tour de Ski was by no means a defeat for Jessie Diggins.
Healing and rest
The American remains optimistic and positive, via an Instagram post in which she thanks her team-mates and staff. At the same time, she shares her plans for the coming weeks: “Now it will be a holiday in Italy with my husband and I will focus entirely on rest, recovery, healing my feet and probably a lot of dark chocolate”, she writes.
If things don’t change, Jessie Diggins won ‘t be lining up at the start of the World Cup stage in Les Rousses (Jura) from 17 to 19 January. She prefers to concentrate on the progress of her foot. It is vital that the injury is healed by the start of the World Championships in Trondheim (Norway) if she is to compete with her formidable rivals.
“We’re taking it day by day,” she told Nettavisen. Before the final race this Sunday in Val di Fiemme (Italy), she said she was already relieved to be able to finish the Tour de Ski, and in freestyle, which is less painful for her.
