The third stage of the cross-country skiing world cup kicked off on Friday in Davos, Switzerland. Back after two, or even three weeks for some nations, in Scandinavia, the world’s best cross-country skiers met up in the Alps for the first sprint team qualifier of the winter.
Expected to be today’s big favourites, Emma Ribom and Jonna Sundling lived up to their billing. Winners by a margin of almost three seconds in the combined classification of this event, the two Swedes will be keeping a close eye on the finals scheduled for 6pm.
Behind them, Rosie Brennan and Julia Kern put the USA in second place, while Finland’s Jasmi Joensuu and Jasmin Kähärä were third. A few tenths further back, France’s Mélissa Gal and Léna Quintin had a solid first round. Fifth after their respective rounds, the Haut-Savoyard women will play in the quarter-finals.
