Cross-country skiing : Paal Golberg and Johannes Hoesflot Klæbo put on a show
Just a few minutes after Emma Ribom and Jonna Sundling left a strong impression on the women’s sprint team, it was the turn of the cross-country skiers to battle it out early this evening in the men’s team sprint at the cross-country skiing world cup held this weekend in Davos ( Switzerland).
And just like their Swedish counterparts, the reigning world champions of the discipline didn’t pull any punches. At the front from the start, Paal Golberg and Johannes Hoesflot Klæbo managed their efforts perfectly to claim the final victory.
As powerful and tactically astute as ever, Johannes Hoesflot Klæbo put the finishing touches to the work done by his Norwegian compatriot a few minutes earlier. Behind them, the Swiss thrilled the home fans, who had already seen them finish top of the qualifying table a few hours earlier.
Janik Riebli and Valerio Grond were also at the front for many minutes, but held on to the finish line to take second place in a sprint behind the untouchable Scandinavians. On the third step of the podium were the Swedes Johan Haeggstroem and Edvin Anger, who were separated from the Italians Elia Barp and Federico Pellegrino at the photo finish.
Les Bleus follow each other in fifth and sixth place
Just a few tenths behind the top 4, it was the French riders who made their presence felt in the rankings. Jules Chappaz and Richard Jouve, who were also in the right car as the kilometres went by, were unable to make any impact in the battle for the podium despite a solid overall performance.
A little over a second behind them, their team-mates Renaud Jay and Rémi Bourdin took sixth place after having been in the lead for a long time. These French performances bode well for the future, as a skateboard sprint will be on the programme at the end of the day on Saturday.
