Cross-country skiing : birth of first child expected in spring
Norwegian cross-country skier Didrik Toenseth has announced that he will be calling time on his professional career at the end of the season. The 34-year-old Scandinavian, who failed to achieve his goal of taking part in the Olympic Games in Milan/Cortina, has also announced that he is expecting his first child with his partner, Lone Moeller Solrud. ” We’re really looking forward to it,” he toldAdresseavisen.

This winter, with just two World Cup starts – an 8th place in the individual classic in Ruka (Finland) and a 23rd place in the same format in Oberhof (Germany) – the Norwegian failed to seize his chance. “I’m not good enough, and that’s not a problem. With a child arriving in the spring, this season becomes important”, he explains lucidly.
A key member of the Norwegian team for over a decade, Didrik Toenseth leaves behind a particularly impressive list of achievements. He was double world relay champion in Falun (Sweden) in 2015 and in Lahti (Finland) in 2017, Olympic relay champion in Pyeongchang (South Korea) in 2018, and has won three World Cups, as well as standing on the podium 19 times.

Before retiring for good, Didrik Toenseth is still hoping to win selection for the Oslo 50km, which he would like to contest as the final major event of his career.
