After the opening mixed relay at the end of Friday afternoon, it was the individual events that kicked off this Saturday at the cross-country skiing world cup being held in the Engadine (Switzerland) this weekend. And it was in the sprint skate qualifiers that the cross-country skiers took to the track at the end of the morning.
Third in Les Rousses (Jura) just a week ago, Jonna Sundling dominated this prologue head and shoulders. Alone in the world in an exercise that suits her well, the Swede beat Finland’s Jasmi Joensuu by more than 4 seconds. Norwegian Johanne Hauge Harviken finished a fine third, just 7 seconds behind the Scandinavian. Also of note was the early elimination of Emma Ribom, only thirty-ninth.

Four French riders lined up at the start of the event. However, only Léna Quintin made it through to the quarter-finals. In eighteenth place, the Bornand native beat Kristine Stavaas Skistad. On the other hand, Léonie Perry, thirty-fourth, Julie Pierrel, forty-third, and Mélissa Gal, forty-fifth, had their adventure cut short in the first round.
