A few minutes after Jonna Sundling’s demonstration, it was still in the Swiss wind that the cross-country skiers took to the skate sprint qualifying round of the cross-country skiing world cup organised in the Engadine valley (Switzerland) this weekend.

Back in action after taking time to recover from the Tour de Ski, Johannes Hoesflot Klæbo was back to his best, setting the fastest time of the first round. The Norwegian won ahead of Switzerland’s Janik Riebli and Sweden’s Edvin Anger.

Just behind this top 3, Lucas Chanavat was the best Frenchman of the day. The Haut-Savoyard beat his compatriots Richard Jouve and Rémi Bourdin, who finished a solid tenth and thirteenth in the prologue. On the other hand, the adventure came to an end for Jules Chappaz, thirty-first and eliminated by just 3 hundredths, and Renaud Jay, thirty-second in a qualifying heat that was decided in less than 6 seconds.
