Cross-country skiing : “This gives us a lot of confidence for the Olympics”
On Friday, Germany’s Laura Gimmler and Coletta Rydzek won the sprint skate team at the World Cup in Goms (Switzerland), a victory they achieved thanks to a perfectly executed strategy.

“Our strategy for the day was for me to get into good positions on the first lap so that Coletta [Rydzek] could take it easy and then put all her power into the final straight,” explained Laura Gimmler in a statement from the German federation. “I was able to improve my pace lap after lap, saving a little energy at the start and then gradually increasing the speed.”
Coletta Rydzek was equally satisfied. “Our tactics worked well. I knew I had to save my energy for the first two and a half laps, and I had absolute confidence in Laura.”

Coletta Rydzek was able to count on the solidity of her partner before finishing strongly. “She [Laura Gimmler] rode a really impressive race. After that, I tried to do just as well, and I was really surprised that there weren’t many people left at the end,” she smiles. Everything went perfectly today and the equipment was fantastic.

With just under three weeks to go to the Olympic sprint team, the Germans – Olympic champions in the discipline with Katharina Hennig Dotzler and Victoria Carl in 2022 in Beijing – have sent out a strong signal, without causing the slightest stir.
“This gives us a lot of confidence for the Olympic Games, but we want to remain calm, not have any exaggerated expectations and simply concentrate on ourselves… For a great performance at the Games, everything has to come together,” concludes Laura Gimmler.
