Cross-country skiing: no medal for France in the EYOF 2025 skate sprint
After the first four individual races all ended in medals, the French cross-country skiing team competing at the Bakuriani 2025 European Youth Olympic Festival failed to reach the podium in the free sprint on Saturday.
On the men’s side, Victor Lafrasse, by a whisker, Paul Rousset Vachon and Simon Calandry all failed to reach the semi-finals, while Simon Calandry lost in the quarter-finals. A few minutes later, the title went to Italy’s Daniel Pedranzini, scorer of the hat-trick in Georgia, ahead of his compatriot Luca Pietroboni and Finland’s Kalle Tossavainen.

In the women’s event, Anouchka Neuville and Lucile Coutaz, the survivors of the qualifying round, first of all made it through to the semi-finals with flying colours. Placed in the same heat, however, they were unable to secure a place in the final and saw their day come to an abrupt halt.

It was Switzerland’s Nina Cantieni, who had won the qualifying round, who took the gold medal. Taking the lead in the final from the very first metres, she kept up the pace to win comfortably ahead of Czech Eliska Polonska and Estonian Gerda Kivil.
