Cross-country skiing: Jessie Diggins more determined than ever to win the globe
You should never bury Jessie Diggins. Lost on the last bump of the course on Sunday in the 20-kilometre mass-start skate of the cross-country skiing world cup in Falun (Sweden), the American still managed to cross the finish line in the lead of this Sunday’s race.

The American put in another courageous performance. Always well placed in the leading group, the current leader of the overall classification was able to follow the various accelerations of her rivals to stay in touch.
In front of Heidi Weng, Ebba Andersson and Nora Sanness, the 33-year-old cross-country skier closed the gap after being slightly distanced on the last climb, before Jessie Diggins broke away. By extending her lead, she secured her sixth victory of the season. A new success that brings her one step closer to a second consecutive crystal globe.

Behind her, it was Heidi Weng and Ebba Andersson who completed the day’s podium ahead of young Nora Sanness, who is still among the very best at this level of competition. Victoria Carl suffered a broken stick a few kilometres from the finish and had to settle for a frustrating fifth place.

In the French clan, only one athlete was competing under the Scandinavian sun on Sunday. And Flora Dolci put in a fine performance, finishing in the day’s top 10 after spending a long time in the chasing pack for sixth place. A performance that confirms her current fine form just a few days ahead of the World Championships in Trondheim (Norway).
