Cross-country skiing : Margot Tirloy starts with a top 3 finish
Just a few minutes after brilliantly winning the women’s sprint skate qualifier at the FESA Cup cross-country ski race in Schlinig (Italy), Margot Tirloy was expected to take part in the finals held late on Friday morning. And the Haut-Savoyard put in a fine performance for this first stage of the season on this circuit.
Winning her quarter-final and semi-final in style, La Cluse made it through to the final without a hitch in the sunshine of Italy. However, when the 19-year-old cross-country skier reached the final round of the competition, she came up against a Beatrice Laurent in her prime. Beaten by just over a second, the skier from Les Aravis nonetheless achieved an excellent result to kick off her international winter with a podium finish.
In the final, the Frenchwoman was also accompanied by her compatriot Daphné Patois. However, the Savoyard was less than three tenths off the top 3 and finished just off the podium behind Austria’s Heidi Bucher.
Behind them, however, the adventure came to an end at the semi-final stage for Annette Coupat, who was not selected as the lucky loser, Romane Nappey, Agathe Margreither and Ariane Pignot.
No Bleues in the senior final
In the wake of the U20 skate sprint, the seniors also took to the track. And two Frenchwomen made it through to the semi-finals. However, Clémence Didierlaurent and Léonie Perry could do nothing, finishing fourth and fifth respectively in their respective pools.
At the front, Federica Cassol didn’t waver. Already impressive in the first heat, the Italian secured her first win of the 2024/2025 season. Germany’s Anna-Maria Dietze and Andorra’s Gina Del Rio completed the podium.
For the French, Cloé Pagnier, Liv Coupat and Julie Pierrel failed to secure their tickets for the semi-finals.
