Cross-country skiing : after coming second, Margot Tirloy takes victory
The second day of competition in the first stage of the FESA Cup cross-country skiing season began on Saturday morning with the individual classic in the under-twenties category. In Schlinig (Italy), the young female cross-country skiers battled it out for their second victory of the weekend on a short 5-kilometre course.

Beaten the day before in the inaugural sprint skate final, when she dominated qualifying and then her quarter and semi-final, Margot Tirloy took the top step of the podium this time. In her rhythm and untouchable as the kilometres went by, the Haut-Savoyard didn’t let her chance slip away to claim her first win on this circuit.
Victorious ahead of Italy’s Beatrice Laurent, who followed up her success in Friday’s sprint, and Switzerland’s Ilaria Gruber, the 19-year-old cross-country skier confirmed her excellent start to the season. She still has a great card to play in Sunday’s mass-start skate race.

At the foot of the podium, her French team-mates also shone. Ariane Pignot(fourth), Annette Coupat ( fifth), Agathe Magreither(sixth), Daphné Patois(eighth) and Romane Nappey(eleventh) all put in a magnificent performance to earn a place among the best German, Italian, Swiss and Austrian competitors.
