Cross-country skiing: Mélissa Gal French mass-start classic champion
The medals in the women’s cross-country skiing mass-start classic at the French Championships in Les Saisies (Savoie) were up for grabs early on Sunday afternoon.
Under an immense sun, and on a track that was logically degraded, Mélissa Gal, Juliette Ducordeau and Clémence Didierlaurent were the strongest. They broke away from the pack in the last of the three 3.3km laps, securing a medal each.
But the suspense was immense as to who would finish on the podium. It all came down to the sprint, and Mélissa Gal from Roch showed her speed to take the gold ahead of Vosges’ Clémence Didierlaurent, who won the U23 title, and Villardienne’s Juliette Ducordeau.
Next in the top 10 were Léna Quintin, Cloé Pagnier(silver at U23 level), Julie Pierrel(bronze at U23 level), Félicie Chappaz, Flora Dolci( just back from the World Military Games), Léonie Perry and Maya Desseux.
