A few days after the world cross-country skiing championships in Trondheim (Norway), Sverige Radio revealed that a 65-year-old man had been harassing Frida Karlsson by text message, and that the accused had even visited the Swede’s home. Currently in Crete (Greece) with the Swedish national team, the 25-year-old cross-country skier has spoken out for the first time about the case against her stalker.

“It’s been a process. This harassment affects many people, and that’s one of the reasons why we reported it to the police. It affects more than just public figures. It’s mainly women who suffer, and it’s also for them that I’m doing it now”, the Swede tells Aftonbladet.
The 65-year-old defendant was ordered to pay a fine of SEK 40,000 (around €3,700) in damages. A two-year suspended prison sentence was also imposed. Prosecutor Christina Edlund Nilsson has now appealed the decision, deeming the sentence too lenient.
