Fourth in the opening individual skate of the cross-country skiing World Cup stage in Lillehammer (Norway) on Friday, Frida Karlsson was no match for Therese Johaug, Heidi Weng and Astrid Oeyre Slind. She was expected to contest a new duel against the Norwegians in the skiathlon on Sunday, but in the end it was not to be.

Still cautious about her foot injury sustained a few weeks ago, the Swede has decided not to defend her chances in Sunday’s competition: “Frida is slowly returning to her best level. She took part in her first skateboard competition on Friday and, in order to maintain a good balance, she has now decided, in consultation with her coach and medical team, not to take part in the skiathlon”, said Rickard Noberius, the national team doctor, in a press release.
While Moa Lundgren will be replacing Linn Svahn, who is ill, Frida Karlsson will not be replaced.
