Just a few minutes after Kristine Stavaas Skistad won the women’s title, the cross-country skiers took to the track in the sprint skate of the Norwegian cross-country skiing championships in Gåsbu (Norway). And while his older brother, Petter Northug Jr, didn’t make it past the qualifying round, Even Northug had a great day.

Eighth in the prologue, the Norwegian took advantage of his position as lucky loser in the semi-final to reach the final round of the competition. And it seems that the Scandinavian made the most of it. Winning by a half-second margin, the 29-year-old cross-country skier was reassured ahead of the Les Rousses (Jura) stage, which he will take part in this weekend.

Behind him, Sindre Bjoernestad Skar confirmed his current fine form by taking silver, while the surprising Filip Skari took bronze. At the foot of the podium was Oskar Opstad Vike, followed by Ansgar Evensen, winner of the qualifier, and Haavard Solaas Taugboel, both of whom fell.
