The day after Silje Theodorsen and Henrik Doennestad won the individual classic, the second day of the Norwegian cross-country skiing championships in Gåsbu (Norway) began on Thursday with the men’s and women’s sprint skate qualifications.
In the women’s race, Julie Myhre took the lead. At ease in this exercise since the start of the World Cup season, the Norwegian didn’t hesitate to take the lead ahead of her compatriots Johanne Hauge Harviken and Hanne Wilberg Rofstad. Kristine Stavaas Skistad, who was also at the start of this race before heading to France to compete in the classic sprint at Les Rousses (Jura), qualified in tenth place.

In the men’s race, it was Ansgar Evensen who got the better of his rivals on the day. The Scandinavian narrowly ed ged out Oskar Opstad Vike by a margin of less than two tenths, and is now back in the spotlight after a difficult start to the season. The experienced Haavard Solaas Taugboel completed the top 3. Petter Northug Jr, who was in the starting gate, failed to qualify after setting the forty-third fastest time of the day.
