17:54. This Saturday afternoon saw the start of the highly renowned American Birkebeiner. A popular cross-country ski race linking Cable (USA) to Hayward (USA), the event takes place every year over a route of almost 50 kilometres.
And the competition was particularly kind to a Frenchman. Having already won this event in 2022, Gérard Agnellet once again conquered the top step of the podium. The Haut-Savoyard, who grew in strength as the kilometres went by, left nothing but crumbs for his rivals, winning by nearly 1 minute and 30 seconds ahead of American David Norris. Michael Earnhart completed the top 3.
In the women’s race, it was a local woman who came out on top. Stronger in the final pack, Sydney Palmer-Leger got the better of Australian Jessica Yeaton and her compatriot Lauren Jortberg.
