Cross-country skiing : “I still love the sport, but I can do it in a more limited way”, says Ebba Andersson
Sweden’s Ebba Andersson had a great 2024/2025 season, culminating in three titles – the individual classic, the skiathlon and the relay – at the World Championships in Trondheim (Norway). During the winter, the 27-year-old cross-country skier didn’t just concentrate on the World Cup. She also raced on the Ski Classics circuit, with two victories in the Reistadløpet and Summit 2 Senja, the last two events on the Pro Tour. She has also embarked on a collaboration with Swedish TV channel TV4. A necessary diversification for her.
“I’ve noticed that over the years it’s become more and more important. Today, I’m an elite athlete who’s been at the top of the world for several years. That means I have to do other things to continue to feel the joy of this sport,” the Scandinavian explained toExpressen.

For the Swede, the motivation has changed since she started out in the national team. She therefore needs to diversify her activities.
“At first, once the season was over, I was delighted to take part in long tours and take advantage of the opportunity to ski. After the world championships, I found it really nice to take part in the remaining races, but I hardly skied at all in between. I still love the sport, but I can do it in a more limited way, if only for my spirit.

This mental fatigue is helped by her great sporting successes and growing popularity. The Swede receives many requests and sometimes has to turn some down.
“I have to turn down certain things that seem very interesting to me, because you can’t do everything. There’s a certain limit, because the most important thing for me during the day is to train, eat and sleep,” explained the Swede.

A way of acting and thinking that has also inspired his partner, Gustaf Berglund, a new member of the Elite national team.
“I think I’ve inspired him a bit to take his work more seriously. Even though he’s still a bit behind on certain points, the precision I often have in my work has rubbed off on him. He’s worked a lot harder in the last two years. “
