On 15 February, Iivo Niskanen scored a major coup by winning the individual classic of the cross-country skiing World Cup stage held on the slopes of Falun, Sweden. However, on his return from the neighbouring country, the Finn was not spared from illness.

As he revealed to our colleagues atIlta-Sanomat, the 33-year-old cross-country skier returned home with the flu. On Sunday evening, when I got back from Falun, I was already feeling a bit worse than usual,” he says. And at the start of the following week, the illness arrived.
This misadventure comes at just the right time, as the World Championships in Trondheim (Norway) start this Wednesday, and the 2015 world champion in the individual classic could have a role to play in this same format. To protect himself, he has indicated that he will not be at the start of the skiathlon scheduled for Saturday.
