Cross-country skiing: the classic mass-start for Mélissa Gal
On Sunday afternoon, Mélissa Gal won the mass-start classic at the French Championships in Les Saisies (Savoie). This was her second title in two days, following her victory on Saturday in the committee relay in the Mont-Blanc colours.
“I have to admit that today was a bit unexpected. I’m really starting to feel the weight of the season. I told myself that I had to be opportunistic and optimistic right to the end. I didn’t want to have any regrets. I’m really happy, it’s the culmination of my season”, she enthuses to Nordic Magazine‘s Micro.

In a race made difficult by the spring conditions. The 25-year-old cross-country skier always stayed at the front of the race. Then in the final pack, the Rochoise put her speed to good use to beat Vosgienne Clémence Didierlaurent and Villardienne Juliette Ducordeau.
“I knew that I really had a chance if I held all the bumps. The finish is my strong point. In the final straight, I said to myself: ‘ You don’t look back, that’s all you’ve got until the finish’. I’m confident in my finish, I know it’s my strong point, it’s where I can beat some of the girls.
