Cross-country skiing: “Hard races are more to my advantage than sprint races”, says Hanna Fine after winning the classic Bessans Marathon
After taking second place in the 2024 event, Hanna Fine was the strongest runner this year in the classic Bessans Marathon. And she’s delighted with her performance. “I’m really overjoyed. It’s the first time I’ve won such an important race. I’ve managed to do what I wanted to do, so there’s a lot of joy and satisfaction,” she told Nordic Magazine.

The race remained grouped until the first difficulty. It was at this point that the 24-year-old cross-country skier decided to launch the hostilities. “I skied fast at this point. Hard races are more to my advantage than sprint races,” she says. She then took the lead.
“I went straight away up the hill, and then there was a very small gap with Amélie Suiffet behind. We saw each other the whole race. It was very close. At the end, I still had a bit of energy left, so I gave it everything I had to make sure I won. Last year, I lost in the sprint, so I was afraid it would come from behind.”
“Learning from my mistakes last year”
This season marks a big change for Hanna Fine. The former Team Vercors Isère rider has joined the Czech eD System Vltava Fund Team.
“Things are going really well with my new team and I’m really happy. It’s a big change from Team Vercors Isère. Vercors was more of a team with friends. Now it’s a bit more personal and professional. Things are going really well. This weekend, I was racing under the colours of my Czech team, but it was Team Vercors Isère who gave me the skis”, she confides.

This Sunday, Hanna Fine will be at the start of the 42km skate race. It’s a race she’s approaching with a bit of uncertainty, despite her victory in the classic event. “I don’t really know about skateboarding. In fact, I did both last year too and I had hypoglycaemia on the skateboard race. I’m going to try and learn from my mistakes last year. The level is really high and it goes really fast. I’m still going to try to get out in front as much as possible. We’ll see how far that lasts”, she concludes.
