Cross-country skiing: short stay in hospital for Johannes Hoesflot Klæbo
Since the end of August, Johannes Hoesflot Klæbo has been at altitude training camp in Park City (USA) with his compatriot and friend Emil Iversen.
As the US training camp drew to a close, our TV2 colleagues revealed in the last few hours that the Norwegian champion had to be admitted to hospital after suffering a wasp sting during an intensity session in Deer Valley (USA).
In the middle of a session, a wasp stung me on the wrist,” he explains in the columns of the Scandinavian newspaper. I didn’t pay any attention, but the next day I woke up with a hand that looked like a balloon! The swelling quickly spread down his arm and his hand became red and painful.
“My resting pulse remained extremely high for three or four days, even though I wasn’t training”, reveals Johannes Hoesflot Klæbo. He contacted Ove Feragen, the Norwegian national cross-country team doctor, by telephone and decided to go to hospital, where he was examined for half a day.
It emerged that the Norwegian champion needed to rest for four days. I stayed in bed, played a bit of PlayStation and tried to relax,” he says. […] Things like that happen. It was boring, but at the same time it was quite nice to have a few days off. I don’t get many of them in a year, so you have to make the most of them when they come.”
