Cross-country skiing : Johannes Hoesflot Klæbo goes down in history
It was almost inevitable. On Friday 5 December, at the end of the classic sprint held in his backyard in Trondheim (Norway), Johannes Hoesflot Klæbo wrote a new chapter in his legend. The Norwegian is the first men’s cross-country skier to reach100 World Cup victories.
So 2025 really is the year of greatness for the Scandinavian after achieving a historic Grand Slam – victory in the sprint, skiathlon, team sprint, individual, relay and 50km – at his World Championships on the Granåsen track (Norway).

Between his very first victory in Otepää (Estonia), in February 2017, and this hundredth World Cup triumph, more than eight years have passed. These are the years during which the Norwegian has shaped his legend, making his mark on the circuit: five crystal globes, seven small sprint globes, fifteen world titles and five Olympic gold medals.

With this hundredth victory, Johannes Hoesflot Klæbo has moved a step ahead of his illustrious compatriots Bjoern Dæhlie – with 46 wins – and Petter Northug Jr (38 wins). From now on, a new horizon looms: that of catching up with, and perhaps overtaking, his compatriot Marit Bjoergen and her 114 World Cup victories.
