Cross-country skiing: first World Cup victory for Coletta Rydzek
On Friday night in Finland, Germany’s Coletta Rydzek won the skate sprint at the cross-country skiing world cup in Lahti (Finalnde). The 27-year-old cross-country skier created a sensation. In fourth place before the final bend, she completed an impressive final straight to claim her first world cup victory.

The tactical track at Lahti (Finland) seems to suit her perfectly. Her only World Cup podium came on this track last season, when she finished second in a sprint skate.

She beat Norway’s Kristine Stavaas Skistad. The 26-year-old cross-country skier had decided to lead the race, but was beaten in the final straight by the German’s powerful comeback. Nadine Faehndrich of Switzerland rounded off the podium.
France’s quarter-final exit
On the French side, the race came to an end in the quarter-finals for Léna Quintin and France Pignot. Bornandine Léna Quintin took fifth place in her quarter, not good enough to progress to the next stage. She finished in twenty-second place.

After another very good qualifying round, France Pignot was unable to get out of her very tough quarter with the presence of Johanna Hagstroem, Colleta Rydzek and Jessie Diggins. The Haut-Savoyard finished in 27th place.
