Cross-country skiing: Therese Johaug’s recital
The cross-country skiing world cup season d rew to a close in sunny Lahti (Finland) on Saturday with a 50km classic. Therese Johaug dominated this very demanding race. It was her 89th World Cup success and her first in a 50km World Cup race.
In what could be the last race of her career, the Norwegian accelerated from the fifth kilometre. At that point, her compatriot Astrid Oeyre Slind was the only one able to hang on. The Scandinavian duo then broke away from the rest of the leading group.
But at kilometre twelve, the 36-year-old cross-country skier broke away into the lead. She then covered the remaining thirty-eight kilometres alone in the lead. A reminder of her greatest exploits. In the stadium, she took the time to greet the public as she crossed the finish line.

Astrid Oeyre Slind then took second place, more than a minute behind her compatriot, after covering almost the entire race, also solo. The podium was completed by Sweden’s Ebba Andersson, more than three minutes behind Therese Johaug.
Next up are Austria’s Teresa Stadlober, Germany’s Katharina Hennig, Finland’s Kerttu NIskanen, Norway’s Nora Sanness, Germany’s Victoria Carl, America’s Jessie Diggins and Switzerland’s Nadja Kaelin.

Flora Dolci, the only French rider at the start, took twenty-fourth place, more than ten minutes behind Therese Johaug.
