Cross-country skiing: Teresa Stadlober close to the podium
After an impressive Tour de Ski (never before had an Austrian reached the podium) and two weeks without competition, Mika Vermeulen was eagerly awaited on the track of the Tuffes stadium, on the occasion of the cross-country skiing World Cup stage in Les Rousses (Jura). The cross-country skier finished the 10km individual skate in eighth place, just behind France’s Victor Lovera and 30.1 seconds behind the winner, Norway’s Iver Tildheim Andersen.

Mika Vermeulen managed his race well and almost maintained his position in the top 10 throughout the race. “Knowing that I had a bit of a cold this week and wasn’t really feeling well, that’s absolutely fine. So I’m satisfied,” commented the twenty-four year old in a statement from his federation. With “very fast and difficult conditions”, he feels he has no right to complain.
For her part, Teresa Stadlober just missed out on her second podium of the winter (1.8 seconds short). The Salzburg native crossed the finish line in fourth place, 21.9 seconds behind.
The thirty-year-old was impressive in a technique that is not her strong point, but she managed her effort perfectly and kept gaining places throughout the course. After 8.6km, she was even provisionally third, but lost ground to American Jessie Diggins, Germany’s Victoria Carl and Norway’s Astrid Oyere Slind.

“I raced on my own and I think it was one of my best individual skating races. Of course, it’s a bit of a shame, because I would clearly have liked to be on the podium, but my objective before the race was actually to reach the top 10. I came fourth and it was a very good start after the Tour. The form is there and the equipment was incredible. I’m already looking forward to Sunday and I hope that a podium will be within my grasp, because that’s really my main objective”, reacted the skier.
