Saturday lunchtime saw the continuation of the major cross-country skiing World Cup weekend in Les Rousses (Jura) with the women’sclassic sprint qualifiers.

It was Johanna Hagstroem who proved the strongest in an exercise she loves. Very solid at the start of the tournament, the Swede beat an impressive Laura Gimmler and her young compatriot Maerta Rosenberg. The day’s big favourites, Jonna Sundling and Kristine Stavaas Skistad, finished fourth and eighth respectively.
In the French clan, Léna Quintin put in the best performance of the day’s first round. Twenty-fourth, the Bornandine beat her compatriots Léonie Besson, twenty-ninth and who will be experiencing her very first career finals in her first elite start, and Mélissa Gal, thirtieth and last qualifier.

Unfortunately, this was the end of the adventure for Clémence Didierlaurent (thirty-seventh), Justine Gaillard (forty-first), Julie Pierrel (forty-second), Léonie Perry (forty-third) and Liv Coupat (forty-fourth). Jessie Diggins , who won the previous day, was also forced to retire at this stage of the competition after finishing fortieth.
