Cross-country skiing: first World Cup success for William Poromaa
This Sunday, the men’s classic mass-start concluded the cross-country skiing world cup weekend in Les Rousses (Jura). It was Sweden’s William Poromaa who won the 20-kilometre race, which was made particularly tough by six passes up the fearsome springboard climb. It was his first World Cup victory.

The 24-year-old cross-country skier continues the Swedish harvest in the Jura followingEdvin Anger ‘s victory on Saturday in the classic sprint and Frida Karlsson‘s victory in the same format earlier in the morning.
William Poromaa completed the race in 51 minutes and 43 seconds. Ausprint, the Scandinavian beat Finnish specialist Iivo Niskanen. The solid Simen Hegstad Krueger completed the podium, just five seconds behind the day’s winner.

Norwegian Erik Valnes took fourth place, just ahead of the first Frenchman Hugo Lapalus. The top 10 was completed by Austria’s Mika Vermeulen, Germany’s Friedrich Moch, Switzerland’s Jonas Baumann, Norway’s Iver Tildheim Andersen and Andorra’s Ireneu Esteve Altimiras.
Hugo Lapalus makes his mark, seven Blues in the top 30
In the French clan, this long-awaited stage came to a fine conclusion. Leading the race for many kilometres, Hugo Lapalus paid for his efforts at the very end. Valiant right to the end, the Haut-Savoyard fought hard to finish in a very good fifth place, just over 12 seconds behind the leader.
Behind him, Richard Jouve also showed reassuring signs after a classic sprint that he left frustrated in the quarter-finals. The Haut-Alpin finished a superb eleventh, competing with the best right up to the end and achieving a fine result in a distance event.
Mathis Desloges, who was also in contact and fought hard, finally crossed the line in thirteenth place. Clément Parisse, who took part in the FESA Cup at the start of the winter, finished strongly in nineteenth place. Rémi Bourdin, who was dropped at the end, was twenty-second.
Another interesting distance event, Jules Chappaz finished twenty-sixth, just ahead of his compatriot Julien Arnaud. It was a tougher race for Victor Cullet Calderini and Sabin Coupat, who finished forty-eighth and forty-ninth respectively. Jules Lapierre, who had initially started, withdrew before the race.
