Cross-country skiing: Sweden’s first World Cup victory
Les Rousses is a good place for the Swedes. On Saturday, Edvin Anger won his first cross-country skiing World Cup. The following day, it was William Poromaa ‘s turn to shout with joy as he crossed the finish line. “ It’s not really the worst week Sweden has ever had,” commented Austrian Mika Vermeulen, 6th on the day, in the columns ofAftonbladet. Especially if you add in six podiums and the domination of Frida Karlsson earlier in the day.

“I’ve wanted this day so much”, said a delighted William Poromaa, 24, after a hard-fought 20km. The Scandinavian also thanked Edvin Anger. Seeing his compatriot on the top step of the podium in the sprint the day before motivated him. He also had very good skis and was in great shape. In short, the planets were aligned for the skier who is a star in his country. ” It was a great day,” he sums up.

William Poromaa also claims that he had “a fairly clear plan” in mind to win on the demanding track of the Tuffes stadium. All he had to do was get rid of Simen Hegstad Krueger, Hugo Lapalus, Mika Vermeulen and above all Iivo Niskanen. In his mind, the Finn was his most dangerous opponent.
“The Swedes were strong today and he deserved a win,” he said, adding that William Poromaa was unbeatable today. At least by him.
