Cross-country skiing: Romain Vaxelaire’s Sunday outing
On Sunday afternoon, in the men’s U20 mass-start classic of the French cross-country skiing championships in Les Saisies (Savoie), there was Romain Vaxelaire and the others. After a first lap in the pack, the Bressaud broke away in the second. He then went on to extend his lead, nipping suspense in the bud.
It was after 33 min 12 sec 3 of effort that Romain Vaxelaire crossed the finish line of this 10 km race, winning the gold medal as French champion. I fell at the end of the sprint on Friday, so I really wanted revenge to try and finish well,” he told Nordic Magazine afterwards. I felt great during the race, there was a great atmosphere and the weather was magnificent.
With nearly a minute to go, several men battled it out for the other two places on the podium, and in the end it was Isaïe Taxil (+46 sec 8) and Johan Calandry (+49 sec 6) who made it, ahead of Nino Sansonne, Quentin Lespine and Jules Bobillier-Chaumont.
The other members of the final top 10 were Lorin Vergnolle, Baptiste Betend, Maxence Perrin and Clément Monnier.
