Cross-country skiing: Vertacomicorian Mélina Berthet wins gold at French championships
There were plenty of surprises in the final stages of the women’s cross-country ski sprint at the French championships in Les Saisies (Savoie). Firstly, Léna Quintin from Haut-Savoie, back from the World Military Games, was knocked out in the quarter-finals, as were Cloé Pagnier, France Pignot and Julie Pierrel.
Then, in the final, favourite Mélissa Gal fell and was unable to defend her chances to the end. As a result, it was Vertacomicor’s Mélina Berthet, eleventh in the qualifying round, who came out on top to claim the national title .

Forézienne Liv Coupat and Villardienne Juliette Ducordeau completed the podium, ahead of Justine Gaillard and Maëlle Veyre. Méline Berthet also won the U23 gold medal, beating Liv Coupat and Justine Gaillard in this specific ranking.
