It was an extremely tight men’s qualifier after the first women’s heat, which Jonna Sundling dominated. Indeed, on Saturday morning, in the qualifying round of the skate sprint of the Lillehammer ( Norway ) cross-country skiing world cup , many athletes were left out.

And that was unfortunately the case for four Frenchmen. Richard Jouve, Renaud Jay, Jules Chappaz and Théo Schely, who had been expected to make a tricky start last Saturday in Ruka (Finland), failed to make it through to the next round after finishing forty-third, forty-ninth, fiftieth and sixtieth.

However, two of their compatriots saved the day by securing their ticket to the finals. Lucas Chanavat was a very good sixth, just two seconds behind the winner Ben Ogden, who had the luxury of beating the specialist Johannes Hoesflot Klæbo and a surprising Jaume Pueyo. Thirtieth and last qualifier, Rémi Bourdin will also see the quarter-finals for the first time this season.
