After the individual skate races on Friday, it was the skate sprints that were on the programme for the second day of competition at the cross-country skiing world cup in Lillehammer (Norway). At the start of the morning, it was the women cross-country skiers who made their debut in the qualifying round.

Impressive in a discipline she often dominated last year, Jonna Sundling once again crushed the first round. Winning by a margin of just 6 seconds over Finland’s Jasmi Joensuu, the Swede struck a blow before the finals scheduled for 11.30am. American Jessie Diggins rounded off the top 3. Kristine Stavaas Skistad, making her comeback, was fourth.

In the French clan, Léna Quintin put in a solid performance. Eleventh on the line, the Bornandine placed within the times of some of the best athletes on the circuit. However, the Haut-Savoyard is the only Frenchwoman who will see out the next round. Behind her, Flora Dolci, Mélissa Gal and Maëlle Veyre didn’t make the cut , finishing forty-eighth, fiftieth and fifty-fifth respectively.
