Following the 21-kilometre events, the 42-kilometre Gommerlauf skate, a popular cross-country ski race held in Goms, Switzerland, took place.
Mattéo Correia, who won the previous day in style, came very close to a double on Sunday. The Frenchman was in the leading group for a long time, but held his nerve to make the most of his chances in the final sprint. However, the Vosges native was beaten by Switzerland’s Cyril Faehndrich, a regular on the World Cup circuit, by just a tenth of a second. Just behind him, Antonin Savary took third place.
In the women’s race, victory also came down to the final package. Third in the classic race on Saturday, Bianca Buholzer put in a fine performance to take first place. On the line, the Swiss rider beat her compatriots Susi Meinen and Rahel Imoberdof.
