The day after Jasmi Joensuu and Erik Valnes won the classic sprint at the FIS cross-country ski races in Muonio (Finland), a 12-kilometre individual classic was on the programme for the second day of competition.

At the start of the morning, it was the cross-country skiers who got the ball rolling. Victoria Carl was impressive throughout the course and outclassed her rivals, winning by more than 30 seconds from her nearest rival. At ease in an exercise that suits her well, the German beat Austrian Teresa Stadlober and local Kerttu Niskanen, third by a whisker ahead of her compatriot and winner the day before, Jasmi Joensuu.

Behind them, Germany’s Katharina Hennig, Pia Fink and Laura Gimmler put in a fine performance ahead of Krista Pärmäkoski, Coletta Rydzek and Italy’s Caterina Ganz, who rounded off the day’s top 10.
